Switchable glass technology continues to evolve, and new trends are constantly emerging. One such trend that is rapidly rising in popularity is the use of switchable glass vision panels. These innovative panels can be fitted to doors and dividing walls, allow those within a particular room or space to decide whether they would like complete privacy, or to enable visibility.
It finally happened. China’s much-publicized glass-bottomed bridge — the longest and highest of its kind in the world — has opened to visitors in Central China. It connects two mountain cliffs in what are known as the “Avatar mountains” in Zhangjiajie, Hunan province. The company has paid as much attention to the precise details of Apple Campus 2 (located a few miles from its existing headquarters) as it does to its products. In fact, the new campus required the creation of custom-made machines — which Apple calls “manipulators” — to handle the lifting and placing of nearly 900 curved glass panels, some of which measure an incredible 46 feet long and 10.5 feet wide. No longer a trend, the free-flowing residential space is what buyers and renters are looking for, and architects and developers are responding by creating inventive homes with fewer walls and larger multifunctional rooms.
Back in August 2014, researchers at Michigan State University created a fully transparent solar concentrator, which could turn any sheet of glass into a solar cell.
